Feeling nostalgic about the park as I often do, I found it. And read, and read. I haven't written here since 2013 I believe. Just knock it off with the animal cruelty, woke b.s. stuff pls. Those animals were cared for better than any you've ever had I'm sure. You weren't there. I was. I worked with all or almost all mentioned in this whole blog. So good to see what ya'll have written here. The real ones anyhow. Some others were comical, real or not. A lot of whining brats. I worked from sun up to sun down year round there. Ray interviewed me and gave me the job on the spot in wildlife in the late 70's. And yes, later I lived in a trailer there and loved every second of it. The place was my backyard. OOOhhh I have to sit on my ass and get paid for it? OOOooo no. How about coming out to section two with me (yes it may be 114* or -20) go into a 10x10 stall with a healthy Arabian Oryx armed with a piece of plywood with a handle on the back of it. Wait until he charges you, which he will do. Do not let him get the tips of his horns under your shield or you'll have a really, really bad day. After or while he smashes you into the wall, grab him by the base of his 3' long dagger horns with one hand, drop the shield and get him with your other hand. Hang on for dear life and control him long enough for Joe or Ray to shoot him up with antibiotics or something. I have thousands of great memories like that from the IWP. I love you all and will reach out to the ones I can. A reunion is definitely in order. I work for a land and cattle co south of the metro-mess but come to Dallas frequently. Hope to see you all soon KB Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02519124729185883627noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34877723.post-56775907419801147402022-11-12T23:42:07.932-05:002022-11-12T23:42:07.932-05:00Wow, to see the list of who's who is amazing. ...Wow, to see the list of who's who is amazing. No telling what happened to them after the park closed. Just look at what is there now. I cry everytime I pass by those stone walled eyesoring warehouses!!!
Sometimes when we work for companies or corps, its difficult to count our bkessings. You didn't realize how fortunate you were to have a part in the lives of those animals because to you, it wasn't about the animals. It was about the people and the pay and some crappy job that you had while waiting for school to start. Which is probably what went wrong with that entire park. People caring more for themselves and not appreciating the interacting with these awesome visitors we had from around the world. I rode the elephant, and the camel, and made friends with the tortoise and had photos with them all. I STILL CRY ABOUT HOW LITTLE CONSIDERATION WE HUMANS HAVE FOR OTHER LIVING CREATURES. People are more supportive towards the life and co-creation of COVID! Lets see where that gets us! Put your mask on and get your vaccine$ because you are the wildlife now...Lab Rats! When its your time to go, no mask wilm save you from the technology that has raped the world of it freedom and privacy. Be sure you get all 12 experimental nano vaccine CHIPS inside your body so that you can become what they reconstruct your DNA to be and possibly CONTROL YOU from a remote location since you have advocated and hated on other people who rightfully question and REJECT that dumb shit, blaming us for your runny nose and magnetic bicep. The bullshit yall are GUNG HO about isnt any kind of shit I would want to live thru anyways. COVID is the least of what should feed yalls fear. While I was in High school I worked as a Ranger at the Park,79-80. Ray, Thanks for hiring me. The experiences I had from that job are good for a lifetime. I regret the Rhea running into the rocks. You never knew about the Rhino getting loose into the wrong part of the park, because I coaxed it back on my own. Well... it was my fault in the first place. Doc Cannon was great. Baby elephants are stronger than expected. "Doug"-"Craig"(getting older and can't remember names) getting rammed by one of the three in the barn while we were trying to treat one of them. That was a jaw dropping moment. Poor Judy. She was getting old. So smart though. I saw Doc Cannon's book and saw that she had been there since she was much younger. I hadn't realized that at the time. I still argue that Wallabies can't swim. At least ours couldn't. Playing lifeguard with them was hilarious. Sitting on the island while people rode the river boat past us was a hoot. I feel privileged to have worked there at such a young age. I wish I could have worked longer, but Summer help was all you guys needed. I always showed up early and stayed late. Fishing in the pond with the Giraffe's taking a drink was awesome. Oscar the grouch wildebeest, Judy, the elephants, camel biting me, the gemsbok oryx so tame. Helping Doc Cannon. I loved every minute I spent there. I have since served in Special Forces, been a physician for 27 years, and have been deployed all over the world. But I still tell people that the best job I ever had was at International Wildlife park for $2.35 and hour!
Thanks for the opportunity to grow
ChipAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34877723.post-67204729114582260422019-08-03T07:57:05.503-04:002019-08-03T07:57:05.503-04:00I worked there for about a year during 88-89 . i r...I worked there for about a year during 88-89 . i ran the nursery for awhile, when Kathy hurt her arm, but mostly drove around feeding and cleaning the animals out in the sections . i'm old now and many things from my past just run together like currents in a river, but these are some of the things that i recall.

I'd come early to work just so i could sit in the aviary and have my morning coffee . getting attacked by the geese in the pond, by the village, every time i had to feed them . how the animals became like friends as i did my daily rounds of the village and beyond . the miniature ponies, the pygmy hippo, the tapir(who loved having her belly scratched with my rake) the lemurs and marmosets (one of whom looked like an old image of Mozart) the Galapagos Tortoises . watching how the adult Giraffes looked like they were running in slow-motion across the enclosure, while we grabbed the young one for a health checkup . running out of gas, and having to make our way back through the rhinos and one very aggressive bison . on one of my first days there, going in a cage with silver back baboons, to retrieve a Columbus monkey stuck in there, where Craig told me, "just don't look the male in the eye", i was sure i was going to die that day, heh . how i loved going to the stall barn to load up on hay, since it was isolated and surrounded by wild animals, and that seemed a bit like Africa to me.

I've got scars on my body from Reese's Monkeys, Condors, Geese, and one on my leg, that i got from the white tiger cub, Sharang, when she was at that point where she was becoming dangerous to play with . i wne t back there years after i left, but although the bare bones were still visible in parts, floods and other factors had left the place barely recognizable . i spent a depressing day there wandering through the ruins, as memories came flooding back.harwarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17856981299561051515noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34877723.post-7395534652256393052019-07-18T20:57:46.806-04:002019-07-18T20:57:46.806-04:00How about Kathy and Diana.... 2 great ladiesHow about Kathy and Diana.... 2 great ladiesAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03071006092747942159noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34877723.post-21595378665625300162019-07-18T18:02:00.681-04:002019-07-18T18:02:00.681-04:00If this is Kathy....
